Hello and Welcome to Great Minds Read! I am very excited to finally launch this blog I have been working on for the past few weeks. I hope you’ll benefit greatly from it as well as contribute to it!
One habit that most successful people have in common is their love for reading. Yes, reading the “right” books increases your chances of becoming successful! 🙂
As a wife, a mom and a professional, I found myself going for months without reading a single book. The little time I had after work and taking care of my family, I used it to:
- Study (At the time I was preparing for my certification);
- Catch up with family and friends on the phone and on social media; and
- Watch TV.
I have always heard about the benefits of reading (Follow this link to an interesting article on the benefits of reading.) I even experienced some of them at a period in my life when I had more time to read. However, I got to a point where I could hardly make time to get to any book on my bookshelf. I knew I had to do something about it. So in 2017, I decided that no matter what it would take, I would read at least one book per month. Reading had to become part of my daily to-do list. I must admit it felt a little unrealistic at first – However, my husband joined the challenge as well – and by keeping each other accountable, we were both able to read 12 books by December 2017.
Although reading is usually seen as an introvert (which I am)/anti-social hobby, research shows that it has many benefits. In fact, those who read are more likely to learn something new every day – something TV or social media cannot teach you. Reading also expands your vocabulary, as you are exposed to new words every time you read. The more often you read the words you are exposed to, the more likely you are to understand them, and use them in your own writing and speaking. These are just some of the many benefits of reading.
My passion and how it ties to Great Minds Read
My passion is to encourage, motivate and uplift others, especially women. So towards the end of 2017, I started thinking about potential ways to help more women (and men too) get into the habit of reading despite their busy lives. I first thought of starting a book club; then as I sat down one day thinking about how the book club would work, the idea came to my mind to start blogging about reading/books. Great Minds Read was born!
This blog is yours as much as it is mine. I would like it to be a platform where we can discuss anything book-related. We will talk about our favorite authors, our all-time favorite books – all with a focus on personal development/self-help books. If you are a writer or aspiring writer, this will also be the place for you to share your work with us.
Great Minds Read will also be on Facebook and Instagram so we can keep the conversation going!
I hope you join me in this exciting journey of personal development!

Until next time,
