Father’s Day is this Sunday, June 16 in the US and in many other parts of the world. On this day, we honor fathers and celebrate fatherhood, paternal bonds and the influence of fathers in society. For those whose fathers have passed away, Father’s Day can be bittersweet. In fact, it is a reminder of all the good times; a reminder of the times you will never again share. I am one of those, as this is my first Father’s Day without my dad; and not being able to hear his voice on that day will be tough. And for those who grew up with an absent father, this day can be filled with lots of emotions as well. My father has been a blessing for us and I miss him a lot. Growing up, he always showed my mother, my siblings and I that we were his priority. In fact, although he did not spoil us by giving us lots of money and material things, he made sure to invest in what really mattered: quality time and education. Nevertheless, as children, we did not always understand why we were on a very strict allowance when it came to money. However, many years later, we are very thankful for the way he and our mother raised us. And we frequently reflect back on it and wished we understood back then. My father was definitely and will always be my first hero and I could not have asked for a better father.
My wonderful husband and father to my children is also a blessing to my life. I am very thankful for him and for the amazing role he plays in our children’s lives.
To commemorate Father’s Day, I wanted to share some books for fathers. Whether you are currently a father, a soon-to-be father, or would like to be a father one day, there is a book for you in this list.
So here you go!
Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers out there, including those who are no longer with us! We love and appreciate you and all you do!
Love,
Huguette
